The Witches 2020 Rotten Tomatoes Score

the witches 2020 rotten tomatoes

The Witches 2020 rotten tomato score isn’t a good one. The remake, directed by Robert Zemeckis, isn’t as good as the 1990 original. It’s an uneven, confusing mess that focuses solely on Anne Hathaway’s ridiculously over-the-top performance. And yet it is a Halloween movie and should still earn some respect from fans.

“The Witches” is a film that premieres on HBO Max on Thursday. Based on the 1983 Roald Dahl book, this film stars Anne Hathaway, Octavia Spencer, and Stanley Tucci. It follows the tale of a boy who saves the world from mice by defeating evil witches. It’s also a remake of the 1990 film starring Anjelica Huston and Nicolas Roeg.

Reviews for The Witches were mixed to negative. While audiences found the movie to be inferior to Roeg’s novel, critics lauded the actress’s performance. According to Rotten Tomatoes, the movie has a 49 percent positive rating, with a consensus that reads “the film misses a few spells.” Metacritic, meanwhile, sampled 30 critics and derived a weighted average score of 47 out of 100.

I really enjoyed this movie, but have to warn you about the Patriarchal religious Over tones where “God” and “The Church” will save you if you simply believe.

This movie aims to target Witches as evil-doers who harm and hate children and all things lovely and just in the world, which is simply not true. However, the leading lady, played by Octavia Spencer, is portrayed as a Healer who uses more VooDoo witchery that is seen as more “white” magic or “good” magic, although, she and her mouse children work together to murder thousands of witches around the world…

As a southern Witch, I enjoyed the writing in this cute, but dark film. I know, that there are more evil doers in church than those who use potions and herbs to heal and work their magic.

Variety reviews praised Anne Hathaway’s performance as the Grand High Witch, which is reminiscent of Angelina Jolie’s role in Maleficent. Zemeckis sticks to Dahl’s elemental storyline and stages the film with a prankish spirit. While this film is intended for young audiences, older viewers can enjoy the contrasting comic approaches of Hathaway and Spencer.

Ranks are determined by a variety of factors. A movie must have a minimum number of reviews to be eligible for certified fresh status. Ranks are based on the average rating and the number of reviews. Movies can lose their fresh status if a majority of critics don’t rate it high enough. In some cases, it may be impossible to achieve the highest score. A movie must have at least ten reviews to become certified fresh.
